I am in the process of looking at a potential relocation. I have a daughter who is a talented player and we are looking for a solid program. She will be playing 16-U next year. From reading the various posts it looks like the 14-U Louisville Lady Sluggers are a well respected team. Can anybody give me information with regard to the overall program and the current 14-U team? Is it a second year or first year team? In addition to competiveness of the team, there are a lot of factors we are looking for such as quality of "coaching", team dynamics, what other programs in the Louisville area should we explore? All ideas welcome. Thanks

There are a ton of teams in the Louisville area at 16U. I do not believe the Sluggers have a 16U tm this year but, next year they will have to .Your best bet will be to get on the eteamz web site and look.Contacting coaches on the list will be easy. Louisville Lady Sluggers 94 Louisville Stunners 94 O.C. Outrage 94 very good Team. Impact 93 not of Louisville but Campbellsville area will be a strong tm.Great Coaches and excellent tm dynamics. Louisville Magic should reappear another solid team. Just look around there are tons of Teams, you'll find alot out here. Best of luck to you and your DD.Try outs for Most tms around here start in ladder Aug.You'll see it on the web for most teams but contact the ones who truly interest you. |

The Sluggers do currently have a 16u team (Borders). If your dd is a really good, dedicated player, the best coaching can be found with the Sluggers94 (Josh Bloomer, Mercy High School) and the Stunners (Billy Bell, Beth Haven High School). OC Outrage has recently stepped up and played well and the will be moving to 16u next year also. They are coached by Steve Linhart. Not sure how to contact these guys but they are not hard to find. Bloomer is well known as is Bell who has been coaching Stunners for many years.
As CC says, there are quit a few teams. Just watch this board and eteamz announcement page for tryouts. |

| If your talented dd is a serious player you should consider the surronding states as an option for teams. I agree that the Lady Sluggers are a quality team that plays ASA ball and gets your dd exposure for the next level, but the rest of the Kentucky teams seem happy with playing USSA, NSA and USFA. Don't limit your talented dd to Kentucky. There are many quality teams in the surronding states such as Ohio, Indiana, Illionis and Tennessee. Many of these quality teams require and expect your talented dd to pratice and improve on her own so the hold a very limited amount of pratices usually early spring to develop team plays and to give the girls a chance to meet befor the tournament season begins. If your dd is committed to play at the next level please consider other than Kentucky. |

I would agree with part of your post. There are several teams that play around the state and they are happy with that. A major reason is the level of talent and the desires of the teams. Not every team that travels is out to win the World Series, which is not a bad thing. I think it's great the more girls that play. The better teams will go to the better tournaments. As far as young ladies going on to play college ball, the top teams in Kentucky have pretty good numbers. I would even go as far to say that the top teams in Kentucky, have as many go on to college to play as the surrounding states. Yes other states have way more teams than Kentucky but our top teams can compete with most anyone around. The best travel team for any child is the one they feel most comfortable with. If you are good, have the grades and scores and the right attitude, you can get noticed. |

| I agree with part of your post also. Not every girl wants to play at the highest level. This guy said that he had a talented daughter looking for a good travel team. Which to me means highly competive travel team. As stated before the Sluggers are a legite travel orginization but that is it in Ky. I am for every girl that wants to play needs to play somewhere. I beleive Ky. is really behind in softball and athlete development and if we want to keep kidding ourselves that we are not check the Ky. Prep website and see how many top twenty teams in Div. 1 softball gave Ky. girls scholarships. Do you not beleive we have athletes capable of going to the top schools? I DO. Check the finishing order in the ASA Nationals, do you see Ky. Teams in the top 20? Again no. I think all Ky. needs to wake up and smell the roses or we will never catch up. Have you seen some of the high school ball, come on. Some schools have people that do not even know the game coaching. Some rec. leagues still play slow pitch. We like a long road catching up with the surrounding states so we better start. |

You are correct as a whole KY is behind, as far as top 20 schools go, most of their roster is made up of west coast players. I don't know if you have ever been out there, but softball is totally different there than here. For one in the state of California they have 10 times or more the girls playing the sport. Most of those girls work on the game every day of the year. I went and watched practice of one of the top teams in California, and spoke to the coach about what they do to prepare for the season. They lift weights all year, they run all year and practice all year. So yes it will be hard to catch up to that. I don't know if we will ever catch up to it. They just get to play more ball than we do. My daughter's team has played teams from all over the country and they have faired well against them all. I think we have many girls in this state that could play high level D1 ball, it is hard to compete though against the girls from the west. Their travel ball coaches know all the schools so well. Look at the top 20 school's rosters and see where they are from and most of them are from about 5-6 teams.
As far as ASA nationals. I would guess until the last few years not that many teams have even thought about going to the nationals, but more and more are every year. ASA is just not that srong here. if you played an all ASA schedule you would play the same teams every weekend. That is why the good teams go out of state. The KY Impact won the ISA World Series last year, the Louisville Stunners won the USSSA World Series a couple of years ago. The Sluggers won a World Series in the older age group back a few years. So yeah are we behind, you bet we are, but I do think we are making strides. Sorry to be so long winded.

Okay we agree Ky. is behind but I don't agree about the California teams. You are correct about the players out West work on their game more but many are multiple sport athletes also. If you watched the NCAA World Series this year you saw several SEC teams and Missouri in the final eight, yes they had some West girls but several surronding state girls too. I beleive that the University of Kentucky has also relized that they were behind and UK doesn't like to be in the cellar in any sport so cuddos to Coach Lawson. More evidence of the California teams do not dominate these days is the 16U Nationals in Owensboro last year. It doesn't take California girls it takes good knowledgable coachs and dedication to the sport. So Coaches when you stop trophey hunting and start puting your team on the field against the best in the country, Kentucky will move ahead.
