14U Sluggers played in their first event this weekend at Music City Hits in 16U age group.

Finished with overall record of 5-2. Finished first in pool. Overall finished 9th out of about 30.

Did not play any KY teams. All the teams we played were from Georgia Alabama or Tennessee. Got put out by the Cobb Bullets a team from the Atlanta area. This was something like the 20th event of the season they had played in. High school is in fall in Georgia I suppose.

Team seemed to pick up where they left off last season. Returners played well together, new players fit in very well. A much more flexible team than last season. Very nice start.

Play in ASA Qualifier in Bowling Green next weekend.

At Sluggerefest the Crush easily did the best of the KY teams. Stunners14, Cobras, Rockers made somewhat early exits. Stunners13 and Blaze played B division and Stunners13 won it.

BlackJack top 10 - week 2
1. Sluggers - nice start
2. Crush - good showing at sluggerfest; played well against Dreams/Shockwaves but lost
3. Outrage14 - only one loss in 3 tourneys
4. Stunners14 - early exit from sluggerfest; early 1 run losses to dreams/Shockwaves; Indy teams seem to own L'ville teams
5. KY Outlaws - not sure about results lately
6. Stunners13 - won sluggerfest B
7. Cobras
8. Rockers
9. Blaze
10.Outrage13

I haven't seen or heard anything about the Blitz yet. They may have a good team also.

In ASA National Qualifier in Bowling Green a team dropped out last minute (Laurel Rage?)which created some strange pairings.

End result was that Sluggers won the event by going 3-0 against the Crush (Pool play, Winner bracket final, Final Game). Crush went 3-0 (Pool, Tment game, Loser bracket final)against the Chicago area team Orland Park Sparks Black.

Sluggers scores against Crush
Pool 3-2 (Sluggers gave up 2 by relief pitcher in final inning)
Winner bracket 4-0
Finals 4-0

Strange tournament - Only 3 teams? The Rage (at least a team called Rage) showed up in Versailles. They were playing championship game against Cobras I think. Stunners95 lost to Rage after leading 5-0. Narrowly lost to OC94 in extras. Rage beat OC 1-0.

Stunners 14 played very well in 18U ASA at Southern. Beat 2 or 3 teams and lost close games to Team Indiana 18U Gold and Championship Academy Ashland.

The way the event worked out was very odd. 3 teams for an ASA National Qualifier when the Nationals are in Georgia and teams are playing all around the state.

Plus the ASA Northern Nationals event teams were playing for a berth at the Versailles tournament is in St. Joseph Missouri - about 575 miles away!

Oh well to each his own.

Slugger 14 are off next week traveling to Colorado for the Fireworks tournament which is played June 29 to July 4 (including some practice games.

http://www.cofireworks.com/

They are playing in 16U Pool KK if anyone wants to follow them.

ilike - It sounds like the Sluggers are playing very, very well. Sounds like the team is even better than last year. The nucleus still doing well? How are the new players working out?

Tough to claim as better than last year this early in the season.

I will say that Hobson is pitching just where she left off for Mercy at State. The new players have provided options on defense. Hitting is lagging some, but the short game players have been great and carrying the water so far. I think they "look " a year older and more mature.

Still any of the top teams can beat you on any given day. Crush had chances last weekend. Outrage seems to be tough, Stunners14 I'm sure are good as are others.

We will know something about them after they return from Colorado. That is a big event with truly nationally known teams. Check out the first practice game team they play

http://www.eteamz.com/93crackers/

If they go .500 out there then they are pretty good.

Great win for Outrage. They played 2 very tough games and took every "punch" from Stunners in both games. Actually came from behind to win both games. That kind of tough play doesn't just happen overnight.

Both pitchers threw very well. Stunners pitcher was more overpowering with lots of strikeouts. Outrage pitcher kept ball low with movement and created a ton of ground balls. Outrage defense hung tough. They were able to strand a lot of runners. That made the difference.

Another note - It was nice to see 2 things from the coaches of both teams: Stunner coach stopped the game to put down some loud comments that potentially could have got out of hand. He was very vocal about it and fans from both teams respected him. The Outrage coach also did his part. At the trophy presentation the Outrage coach made a point to compliment the Stunner players and coaches for their tough play on the field. Class act from both coaches. Nice to see stuff like that. No matter what happens going forward, the Outrage players and coaches just gained some major respect...

14U sluggers played in Colorado Fireworks 16U event last week. I did not attend but by all accounts it was a fantastic event with some of the best national programs in attendance. College coaches all over the place.

They went 1-4 in a very tough pool. Defeated by teams from CA, Ariz and Oregon. Beat a team from Missouri. Played the California Fury and Oregon Silver Bullets close, but were creamed by the Arizona Hot Shots. Due to rain the tournament did not start until Sunday and the team had to leave to fly back home and forfeited the first game.

Played three practice games losing 7-0 to California Firecrackers and by one run each to Georgia Fire and a team from Canada.

The idea of the event was to get the kids to see what level they need to be at to compete nationally and get prepared for next year when they will be looking to be recruited.

This coming weekend (10th) Sluggers will be at Ohio Stingrays tournament in Columbus Ohio. 16 very good 14U teams from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and of course KY.

Following weekend (17th) they will be in Kentucky playing 16's at Versailles. Maybe we will see the Outrage or other good 14's there as well.....There are two spots open.

Sounds like a long week for the Sluggers (at least from the standpoint of wins and losses at 1-7). However, it sounds like a "mission accomplished" as far as playing top national teams. Hopefully the players will not be discouraged. Should set them up nicely for Ohio event.

Stunners (Bell) won NSA state in Lexington in a 16-team field. They were unable to play 16u as they have two 12 year olds on roster. Rain ended the event while Stunners won winners bracket and were waiting for the losers bracket to finish. Only "close" game was to London Rage who took a 3-1 lead in the middle innings but Stunners put on a nice display of power hitting and won 9-3. Rage has some nice young bats.

Stunners95 were knocked off twice by London Rage in close games. Rockers94 won first 3 games before getting beat by Stunners.

Sluggers won 12u NSA State
Stunners93 won 16u NSA State
SportsReach won 18U NSA State (formally Stunners Kevin Johnson)

Stunners14 (Bell) will be playing in the ASA State in Bowling Green this weekend. Stunners95 will be in Ft Knox this weekend probably with Outrage.

Ilikesoftball --we ( 13u- stingrays -Caton) play each other in 1st round pool play on friday --I'd love to be able to meet you but I'll be gone to Canada on a fishing trip. Been a long year for us. one of our pitchers may quit before this coming weekend --got into a verbal disagreement with the SS (for the 2nd time) on sunday am. travel ball drama sucks the fun out of everything.

anyway , my darling daughter will be most likely the two hole hitter , bats left , playing CF. hopefully we will be competitive , we are only playing about 500% this season , but have played a really highly competitive schedule . Played 2 16u's (actually won 1 of them , went 6-0 but went 1-4 in the other ) have played several of ohio's best multiple times. We have seen the Ohio Slammers (winners of the 14 HOF tourney in Ok city) Doom95 twice , Ohio Ice 3 times, Heart of Ohio Explosion 2 or 3 times , Flamin Fury (killed us last weekend) Lasers Silver , Laser Gold. along with the pitts power 14u team.

The best teams in this field are Laser Red (GREAT time to catch them however) --they just beat the Slammers TWICE last weekend , playing up at 16u at Gapss in Columbus. Both the red and slammers are legit top ten contenders for asa nat's at 14u. Akron Sapphires are strong but I have not seen them . Doom 95 for all 13u's are legit for sure.

Indy diamond chix were really good as 12's last year if this is there 13u team. Should be a great tourney. We won it as 12's last year coming out of the losers bracket but we lost 7 kids off that team. have a great time. MD

All about fastpitch !

Sluggers finished second at the StingRay tournament to Ohio based Lady Lasers Red 5-4 in a very good game. Starting pitcher struggled some and they got down 2-0 then tied it up, then went down 5-2. Second pitcher held them scoreless. They rallied in middle innings scoring two more, but stranded two runners in both the 6 and 7th before losing. Lady Laser Red are a legit team. Very solid in all phases. Prior to that Sluggers won both pool games (Ohio Stingrays - Canton and Pittsburgh RoadRunners) and beat Team Indiana Gold, Cincy Doom 95 and Ohio Wave in the tournament portion.

StingRay event was very good. Lots of college coaches around during pool play, especially in the 16U age group.

The 14U Sluggers played in 16U last weekend at Versailles. Went 2-0 in pool play on Saturday and won first tournament game. But ended up finishing 4th out of 9 and played just miserably on Sunday. Beat by Louisville Magic 1-0 in second game of winners bracket. Ally Foster from CAL was pitching and she pitched a very nice game. Good speed and made the girls chase high. Beat a Franklin County team in loser bracket before losing 7-3 to a team from Michigan that we had defeated 3-1 in pool play. Big strong girls that just hit the heck out of us on Sunday.

I was able to watch 14's for a while and the Bluegrass Blaze looked good in the games I saw. Seemed to be winning by good margins. I am assuming they won the event. I haven't heard too much about them so far but the looked good that weekend.

Sluggers now travel to 14U ASA "A" Nationals in Georgia. 122 teams from across the US. Start off with a pool game against Southern Cal Choppers. Pool also includes teams from Oklahoma and Tennessee.

http://www.cobbcounty-asanationals.com/ is the website if anyone wants to follow our progress.
